Seagate Technology has donated 2.5 PB storage to study data storage challenges in Genomics. The study based on genomics taken up by researchers from Baskin School of Engineering at UC Santa Cruz will get the gifted storage from Seagate by forth quarter of 2015. It will provide the basis for a major research program on storage of genomic data.
Since, Seagate knows that the storage requirements for Genomics research are staggering the storage media maker has gifted $250,000 valued storage to the research team. That includes a 1 Petabyte of Seagate’s Kinetic Disk drives for object based storage, plus an additional 1.5 Petabytes of traditional Seagate SATA disk drives for use in existing clusters within the UC Santa Cruz Genomics Institute.
