StoneFly Storage Concentrator Virtual Machine (SCVM) is a software appliance that creates a virtual network storage appliance which has the potential to consolidate all of the user’s mission critical servers and storage into an all in one appliance.
The SCVM which is being offered by StoneFly is designed for VMware vSphere, VMware vCloud and Microsoft Hyper-V environments. It has an advanced and fully featured iSCSI SAN storage appliance within a virtual machine.
For those using the SCVM for disaster recovery or backup, the software has hybrid replication feature which allows the software to replicate as a function of change over time rather than change to data. Snapshots can be taken at shorten intervals with no loss of data and no need to scan during each replication pass. As a result, the differential engine re-synchronizes the source and destination VMs selectively. As a result, this feature cuts down the need to replicate the entire source image again, as it just captures the data that changed between snapshots.
Since, no additional systems are required for storage as SCVM users will no longer need a separate box for storage. They can create networked IP storage along with server virtual machines, all on the same hardware platform. This allows an increase in productivity, simplifies management, and reduces power and rack space requirements.
