WhatsApp the smart phone based messaging service temporarily crashed in an array of countries from US to India, potentially affecting a hundred million users. The users which were affected by the outage were mostly from USA, Europe, India, Japan, Malaysia and Columbia.
The WhatsApp outage lasted in between 0200 GMT and 0300GMT. That means the disruption lasted for about an hour.
Comments posted on various social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter revealed that users were experiencing intermittent difficulties with WhatsApp during the brownout period. As a result, many status updates and chats reached to the server with a 6 minute delay.
According to few media sources, the blackout was caused by Facebook’s latest move of integrating WhatsApp more snuggly into the worlds leading social media network’s platform. This will help users to share info between both the services from beginning next month.
