Microsoft Azure SQL server database users will now on get unlimited virtual storage capacity. This will allow SQL Stretch Database users to dynamically stretch on-premise data to Azure, which according to Microsoft, makes for virtually unlimited compute capacity and storage.
The new service will be available to the SQL Server 2016 preview users with SQL Server Stretch Database service. This feature allows server stretch database customers to stretch their storage capacity into public cloud when they run out of resources in their on-premise environment.
Although, Microsoft touts this storage availability as unlimited, in reality, it will be with a 60 terabyte cap per database.
Another feature that SQL Server 2016 is bringing in is Transactional Replication to Azure SQL Database that helps in moving data to the cloud without downtime to an on-premise database.
