Fixstars, a Tokyo based company which originally started off as software and then diversified into storage business has introduced a hand held server called ‘Olive’ with 13TB SSD storage capacity.
Fixstars Olive can be viewed as a full-fledged computer crammed into a 2.5 inches form factor backed by 13TB storage capacity. This device is better suited for businesses than homes and is customizable, with a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), which can be reprogrammed for specific tasks.
Olive has an ARM Cortex-A9 processor with a 512MB RAM and Gigabit Ethernet. It has a 32-bit Linux operating system on its platform and can be used as a portable server which can help collect movies, store data and distribute data related to databases or the Internet of Things.
The Japan based company is offering a demo of the server at the NAB show in Las Vegas, which is targeted at broadcasters, filmmakers, studios, Mobile video surveillance applications and multimedia enthusiasts.
