StoneFly available in Microsoft Azure Marketplace

StoneFly, Inc. a provider of iSCSI and FC SAN and NAS solutions announced that its cloud based iSCSI SAN and NAS service is available in Microsoft Azure Marketplace. The solution inclusion into Azure platform and joining the Microsoft seller program are examples of how StoneFly is expanding its reach and ability to sell through more channels.

StoneFly Cloud Drives feature StoneFly’s proven enterprise-class SAN technology which has been integrated with Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing platform to offer Storage as a Service (SaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), remote OS boot from the cloud, and the provisioning of datastores for physical or virtual environments (such as VMware or Hyper-V).

The virtual drive is ideal for protecting mission critical information and includes advanced business continuity features such as snapshots, asynchronous remote replication, multi geo mirroring (one to many and many to one), data deduplication, volume encryption and thin provisioning.

To obtain offsite backup inexpensively, Microsoft Azure cloud computing platform empowers organizations to fully utilize StoneFly’s backup and disaster recovery features.

The amount of total redundancy is up to each user, with choice of Azure’s Locally Redundant Storage (LRS) with 3 synchronous copies of your data within a single datacenter, Geographically Redundant Storage (GRS) with 3 synchronous copies of your data within one datacenter and 3 asynchronous copies of your data at a second datacenter hundreds of miles away, or with Read-Access Geographically Redundant Storage (RA-GRS) with the same redundancy as GRS but with the added ability of read-access to the secondary datacenter when there is an outage at the primary datacenter.

Additionally, for those who want to dramatically increase the performance of StoneFly Cloud Drive, an acceleration Gateway with FlashCache is being presented. The StoneFly Cloud Acceleration Gateway appliance with FlashCache is configured to cache and accelerate the data transferred between user’s local systems and the StoneFly Cloud Drive on Azure. With the help of this gateway, bandwidth troubles and network bottlenecks can be avoided while transferring data.

Much like StoneFly’s Cloud Storage Acceleration Gateway Appliance, StoneFly’s Virtual Cloud Acceleration Gateways can also dramatically increase the performance of StoneFly Cloud Drives. The StoneFly Virtual Gateway is configured to cache and accelerate the data transferred between your local systems and the StoneFly Cloud Drive on Azure. Not only can the StoneFly Virtual Gateway cache data before it is sent to the cloud, it can also cache hot data that is used frequently. This greatly improves read performance and speeds up access to data as the same files do not have to be repeatedly downloaded from the cloud to your local systems, thereby reducing overall demand on bandwidth. There are two ways to implement a StoneFly Virtual Cloud Acceleration Gateway:

  1. Virtualize the Gateway on Existing Equipment: Install a StoneFly SCVM Virtual Storage Appliance on an existing on-premises VMware or Hyper-V platform and provision it with enough storage capacity to properly cache data being sent to and from the StoneFly Cloud Drive hosted in Azure. SSD drives are preferred for caching, but rotating disks can be implemented as well.
  2. Deploy a StoneFly Hyper-Converged Gateway: Install a StoneFly Hyper-Converged Cloud Storage Acceleration Gateway with FlashCache on your local network.
