Apple has plans to buy Dropbox?

Dropbox, a globally recognized IP storage solutions provider has revealed that Apple had/has plans to buy the company from 2009. Speaking at the Mobile World Congress, DropBox CEO Drew Houston said some startling facts about Apple’s cloud services.

Drew warned people against cloud solutions that are being offered by single manufacturer of smart phones. He said that this leads to vendor lock-in and will leave the customers without a choice. Mr. Houston added that iCloud users will become locked into a device due to the fact that the company’s cloud storage solutions do not run on other IP storage services.

DropBox CEO made a statement that Apple iCloud Services leave ‘bizarre limitations’ to its users as iPhone and iPad users cannot share their documents with Android users. As he said,” There will never be an engineer in the apple cafeteria, who could say,” Hey I made the android version of iCloud”. Speaking at the Mobile World Congress, Drew added that apple fears of competition from other service providers and so wants to pamper its users with its exclusive services. According to few participants at the Summit, Apple’s idea may backlash in a coming years. They concluded that Apple will surely get into a helpless situation in coming days like what RIM is presently facing with its vendor lock-in policy.

In the year 2009, Apple was in look out to buy DropBox in a way to expand its business. But it was Drew who said no to their approach and now he has no regrets in doing so.

In the recent developments, DropBox has joined a partnership deal with Samsung, where all Samsung devices will now come with pre-installed DropBox Client. So, the users using these gadgets can save their data on phone and can pass it on to the DropBox cloud on a simultaneous note. In order to tackle its competitor APPLE, Samsung is said to be instigating DropBox CEO to spit fire on the former’s services.

Since, Apple won the patent rights in US, Samsung is in a plan to take down its rival in this way. Since, everything seems to be fair in war and business (not love) these days; this move can help DropBox in gaining some buzz over the internet.

But no matter who does what? Apple seems to be in control of the situation for now atleast.
